HAVING FUN IN THE KITCHEN #2 : GATEAU FRAISES, PIMENT, LARDONS / STRAWBERRY - CHILI- BACON CAKE

I know, what you guys are thinking...I'm always late ! But not really actually, because I never give you a day or a date !!!!
So for the "Having fun in the kitchen" challenge #2, Cecile, from the very good blog Sweet Kwisine was the winner of the game and gave me the strawberries, chili and bacon...not really easy, I know !
So I had 2 choices, make a savory recipe with a sweet element, or make a sweet recipe with a savory element.
I choose the second one, I found it more inspiring for me !
After a long brainstorming, this idea came to me. A cake, with a strawberry compote infused with chili, a white chocolate frosting, something fat to contrast with the spiciness and some candied bacon. Because I just love candied bacon ! My actual favorite Donut is the maple syrup and candied bacon !!!
So, here is the recipe !!! And thanks again to all of you who played on my Facebook Page or on my Instagram

Ingredients pour 6-8 personnes :

Le gateau
     - 3 oeufs
     - 100 g de sucre
     - 125 g de beurre demi-sel
     - 150 g de farine
     - 1 sachet de levure

La compote de fraises
     - 200 g de fraise
     - 1 cuillère à soupe d'eau
     - 1 cuillère à soupe de sucre en poudre
     - 1 piment

Ingredients for 6-8 people :

the cake
     - 3 eggs
     - 1/2 cup of sugar
     - 1/2 cup of salted butter
     - 3/4 cup of flour
     - 2 tsp of baking powder

The strawberry compote
     - 8 oz of strawberries
     - 1tbsp of water
     - 1 tbsp of sugar
     - 1 small chili ( not too spicy)

The white chocolate frosting
     - 8 oz of white chocolate
     - 3/4 heavy cream
     - 1/2 cup of cream cheese

Garnish
     - 8 oz of strawberries
     - 1/2 cup of bacon
     - 2 tbsp of sugar

Preparation:

1- Make the cake :
In a bowl whisk together the butter and the eggs, with a whip or an electric mixer.
Then add the sugar, the flour and the baking powder.
When the mixture is well combined, pour it in a mould (rectangular shape).
Put the cake in a preheated oven, 350 F, for 45 minutes.
When it's cooked, get it out of the oven, let it cool and take it out of the mould.
When it's cold, cut it in the middle with a bread knife.

2- Strawberry compote
In a saucepan, with the water and the sugar, cook the strawberries cut in 4, and half of a chili, without the seed.
Cook it for 10 minutes, and when you have a nice compote consistency, let it cool.
Then remove the chili.
Keep 2 tbsp of the spicy strawberry juice.

3- The white chocolat frosting
In a saucepan, pour the cream and heat it.
Meanwhile, chop the white chocolate  and put it in a bowl.
When the cream is hot, pour it on the chocolate and let the chocolate melt slowly.
Mix it and add the cream cheese.
Mix again.
Then put the bowl in the fridge until it's very cold.
Just before frosting the cake, whisk this mixture with and electric mixer, until it's smooth and like a mousse.

4- The garnish
Cut the strawberries in slices.
Cut the bacon in thin slices.
Put the bacon in a hot pan and cook it until most of the grease of the bacon is in the pan.
Remove the bacon from the pan. Pat dry the bacon and replace it in the pan with the sugar and the strawberry juice.
Cook the bacon until caramelized.

5- Finish
Take the bottom of the cake. Spread half of the frosting, the compote, and half of the fresh sliced strawberries.
Then, put the second half on the cake and frost it with the rest of the white chocolate frosting, then the strawberries, and the candied bacon.

Serve it as a dessert, or for the tea time !

HAVING FUN IN THE KITCHEN #1 : CREME DE CHAMPIGNON AU CHORIZO / CREAM OF MUSHROOM WITH CHORIZO

Hi guys !

If you follow me on my Facebook page or on my Instagram, you know that I launched a new game on the blog, named "Having fun in the Kitchen".

I was bored of just cooking. I see all this amazing recipes on the blog, the magazines...what could I do better ? I see all this trendy recipes, and I'm not good for that, following the trendy recipes.
So I thought about my blog, what I want it to be, to become...And it's always the same answer, I want my blog to be a funny place, for my and for you, readers !
And I thought about this TV show we liked watching in the US,  "Chopped" ! If you don't know it, it's a tv show where 4 cooks have to try to cook a meal with ingredients that they discover just before cooking...yes I know all the cooking tv shows do that ! But in this one, you always have to combine really weird ingredients, like snake, candies and apples, or chocolate, pepperoni and avocado...
So that's what I want to do, be surprised, renew my cooking, and have fun in my kitchen, with your help guys...well, your help, or not !

So I'm gonna try to do it once, twice, or more times in a month, depending on my time.
This is my way to go back to the blog, because I wasn't happy with my conventional way of blogging...I'm more happy with this funny way of blogging !

For the first one, you were 12 or 14 people playing with me ! Thanks !
Anne-Sophie won and her choice was mushroom, chorizo and mascarpone !
I made a cream of mushroom. It's easy, quick, you can do it for a last minute dinner, for a party, because even if it's better hot or warm, you also can eat this recipe cold.

Ok, you want the recipe, so here it is !

1- Peel and slice the onion.
Let it cook in a pan for 5 minutes
Clean the mushrooms and cut them in quarters.
Add to the onion.
Add the garlic, the thyme, and half of the chorizo, cut in dices, and let cook for 5 minutes.
Pour the water and cook for 5 more minutes.

2- Pour the mixture in a blender.
Add the mascarpone, the cream, the salt and pepper and blend until it's really smooth.

3- Slice the rest of chorizo and brown it in the pan 2 or 3 minutes on each side.
Cut it in small pieces.

4- Put the cream in small glasses, then sprinkle the chorizo on the top.
Serve it right away, or let it cool and serve it cold.
